Double Coated Breed Services
Double-Coated Breeds We Specialize In
Many dogs have a double coat — a soft, dense undercoat for insulation and a longer topcoat for protection. These breeds require specialized grooming techniques to maintain their coats' health and keep their skin comfortable. At Heights Grooming, we never shave double coats. Instead, we carefully de-shed, bathe, and brush them out to help manage shedding and maintain proper coat health.
Why It Matters
Double-coated dogs are beautiful, but their coats can trap dirt, debris, and loose fur. Regular professional grooming helps:
- Reduce shedding at home
- Keep coats free of mats and tangles
- Maintain healthy skin and coat texture
- Keep dogs cooler in summer and warmer in winter
At Heights Grooming, we’re experts in caring for double coats, keeping your pet comfortable, healthy, and looking their very best.
What’s a Double Coat?
A double coat means your dog has two layers of fur:
Undercoat: Soft and fluffy, it keeps them warm in winter and cool in summer.
Topcoat: Longer guard hairs that protect from dirt, water, and sun.
Important: Double coats should never be shaved — doing so can damage the coat and affect your dog’s natural temperature regulation.
At Heights Grooming, we utilize specialized deshedding and coat-care techniques to manage shedding, prevent matting, and keep your double-coated dog healthy and comfortable.
