Thanksgiving Safety for Pets: Gratitude Without the Guilt
November 12, 2025
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is a time for food, family, and gratitude, but not every part of the feast is safe for your furry family members. At Heights Grooming, we believe every pet deserves to enjoy the season in comfort, health, and style. With only 13 salon days left before Thanksgiving, now’s the time to plan so your pet looks and feels their best before the guests (and the gravy) arrive.
Keep the Feast on the Table—Not in the Bowl
Many traditional Thanksgiving foods can upset your pet’s stomach or even be toxic. Keep the following off their menu:
● Turkey skin, bones, and gravy: Fatty and hard to digest; cooked poultry bones are particularly hazardous because they are brittle, can splinter and cause injury.
● Stuffing and casseroles: Onions, garlic, and heavy seasonings can be toxic to both dogs and cats.
● Raisins, grapes, and chocolate: Highly poisonous, even in small amounts.
● Xylitol-sweetened desserts: Found in sugar-free treats, it’s extremely dangerous and potentially deadly.
Instead, offer yummy and pet-safe snacks like plain pumpkin purée, green beans, or a small piece of unseasoned turkey breast.
Calm Pets, Happy Guests
Thanksgiving gatherings can be loud and overwhelming, especially for sensitive pets! Plan to:
● Exercise earlier in the day to burn off energy.
● Keep a quiet space ready with their bed, toys, and water bowl so they can relax.
● Use calming sprays or chews if your pet tends to be anxious around guests.
A calm pet makes for calmer company (and better family photos!).
Finally, remember to secure trash:
Secure garbage bins with tight lids to prevent pets from accessing dangerous leftovers like turkey bones or packaging.
Get Photo-Ready for the Holiday
From cozy family portraits to group selfies at the dinner table, you know the cameras will be out. A fresh groom or bath brings out your pet’s natural shine, eliminates odors, and makes those photos frame-worthy.
● A Blueberry Facial brightens their face for photos.
● A nail trim and paw treatment keep paws healthy and slip-free on hardwood floors.
● A brushing or de-shedding treatment keeps coats soft and manageable.
There are only 13 salon days left before Thanksgiving!

Our Philosophy
At Heights Grooming, we believe grooming is essential wellness. Your pet feels calmer, cleaner, and healthier when their coat and skin are properly cared for by a professional.

Our philosophy at Heights Grooming is simple: grooming is a vital component of your pet's overall wellness, similar to veterinary and dental care. Our groomers are not just stylists; they are skilled professionals trained in the unique structure of Doodle hair, which is prone to specific health issues when not properly maintained. Grooming is essential pet care, not a luxury, it's about health, not just style. Learn about the top three myths about Doodles and their coats. MYTH 1: Doodles are part Poodle; they are hypoallergenic and don't shed. Reality: There is no such thing as a 100% hypoallergenic dog. Doodles inherit a mix of traits from their parent breeds, which can include the shedding tendencies of the shedding parent. Doodles do shed, but the curly Poodle-like coat often traps the shed hair rather than releasing it, which is what gives them the reputation of being "non-shedding." The trapped hair can quickly form painful mats if not brushed out regularly. MYTH 2: Doodles are low-maintenance and don't need regular grooming. Reality: A Doodle's coat is actually high-maintenance and requires consistent grooming and care. Daily brushing with a slicker brush and a metal comb helps prevent mats and tangles, ensuring you reach down to the skin. In addition to at-home care, regular professional grooming is required to keep your Doodle healthy. MYTH 3: It's okay to let a Doodle's coat air-dry after a bath or swim. Reality: Allowing a Doodle's damp coat to air-dry is one of the quickest ways to create severe matting. Water causes small tangles to tighten, and if not thoroughly dried and combed, these tangles turn into large, painful mats (or pelts) that can only be removed by shaving the dog.
